Abstract: | This term paper aims to carry out a study of the existing Acts and Regulations which control the bar on smoking when inside public spaces in the United Kingdom, in Italy and in Malta. A comparative analysis of the laws of the specified countries will be conducted in order to ascertain the distinctions and similarities between them. This will be done in the following way; after a separate study with respect to the provisions of each of the three countries is performed, the differences and similarities found will be indicated under another section, where a reference to relevant international law will also be made. Finally, the conclusion will review the outcome of the research executed and proposals will be put forward with regards to certain measures which can be opted for in order to improve, if need be, the law already implemented in Malta, and also the enforcement of the said law. It is important that a country apart from having strict provisions, additionally has good enforcement and compliance so that the effects which through this law were expected to be achieved, and therefore the reduction in health problems associated with smoking, as well as the hope of decreasing the habit of smoking in general, will be achieved. |
