“Sarah’s story” : the creation of an LGBT comic

Abstract

A project in which a comic has been created to aide reach out to a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) Young Adult (YA) audience. The comic is aimed specifically at a Maltese audience, where literature of this type does not exist. The project aims to utilise the medium of comics to promote a message of acceptance and inclusivity. The development of the story is based on extensive reading done about the themes of LGBT YA literature. The literature review informs both the form and content of the final project. The final product maps the stages of coming out, while exploring different uses of graphic narrative intended to best tell the story with greatest possible effect.
