Abstract: The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the views of former teenage mothers who furthered their education at tertiary level in order to understand the psychological impact of education on them. Five Maltese former teenage mothers who are now employed and working in their respective field participated in one-on-one interviews in order to recount their lived experiences on dual roles as students and mothers and the long-term effect of education on their lives. Interviews were audio recorded, transcribed and coded using Thematic Analysis. Discussion with participants revealed six major themes regarding the psychological effects of education on their lives. These included: acceptance of maternal role and psychological maturity and adjustment; effects of stigma and resilience by overcoming stereotypical views of teenage motherhood; educational trajectories and determination to succeed; difficulties encountered; benefits of education and social network of support. The findings revealed that teenage mothers need great support in order to further their education. However, when available and upon education completion their adult transition seems similar to their non-parenting peers.
