CHOGM Malta 2015 and its impact on the Maltese economy

Abstract

This study was carried out with the aim of understanding the impact of CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting) Malta 2015 on the Maltese economy. This study involves an overview of all the main components of CHOGM and the related boosts and leakages regarding the Maltese economy. This long essay was based in November 2015 during which the CHOGM event was held. A comparison between CHOGM Sri Lanka in 2013 and CHOGM Malta 2015 was also conducted. This study also delves into event tourism and the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events) niche market which involves several benefits to the Maltese economy. By means of literature review on these matters and other related aspects, this long essay is made to discover the true potential of event tourism in Malta. This study should be of particular interest to tourism policy makers, stakeholders and the remaining components of the tourism value chain.
