To analyse the importance of culture tourism, with a special focus on the fine arts and how the local stakeholders are targeting this segment in order to attract more visitors

Abstract

As the title indicates this dissertation will be about culture tourism, specifically on the fine arts in Malta and what can be improved in order to provide a superior tourist product. The main aims are; to get an insight of the new fine arts museum, how the authorities intend to handle the migration from the current museum and how this will affect the tourists. The second is to identify what can be improved with regards to the fine arts in order to provide the tourists with the desired product. Lastly to get an insight on what the tourists the local culture and the fine arts. The method used to achieve this kind of information is that of using interviews, I chose this method since it’s more personal than a questionnaire and you can get more insight of what the participant thinks. Some of the main results obtained were; that the contemporary and modern arts are not being given enough exposure locally, marketing plays a key role when it comes to attracting tourists and the Maltese cultural product has a lot of potential which currently isn’t being exploited. In the end, it can be concluded that without the adequate marketing strategies and adequate information presented to the tourists it will be difficult to attract more tourists. Also, the new fine arts museum is set to incorporate all the aspects mentioned above along with new interactive, technological aspects and is also set to seek the involvement of the local community.
