dc.description.abstract | In this anniversary feature Saillard looks at how Malta serviced the allied forces leading to the end of the Gallipoli Campaign. While French and British troupes were fighting off the Ottoman defenders of World War I, Malta s humanitarian contributions was gaining the island a reputation as the Nurse of the Mediterranean . It discusses the growing sanitary concerns within the Peninsula, leading to overwhelming amounts of casualties that were eventually transferred to the island s field hospitals and convalescent camps. Saillard also writes about the history of the island s war memorials and military cemeteries. | en_GB |
