dc.description.abstractA preliminary study of the oral health of Maltese school children was carried out in 1964. The islands of Malta and Gozo occupy an area of 122 square miles and have a population of 326,000. They are situated halfway between Gibraltar and Cairo, about 60 miles south of Sicily. The population density is one of the highest in Europe, about 2,600 per square mile. In 1965, government primary schools contained 47,000 children. This figure does not include children attending private schools. In this survey 1,181 children were examined.en_GB
