The island of Malta proves large enough to develop its own system of sea breezes on suitable days between early March and mid-October. This results in many reports of unrepresentative wind directions at the observing stations in Malta, and in frequent shifts of wind direction at Luqa airport, near the middle of the eastern end of the island, which are a source of embarrassment to air traffic controllers. This article contains observations, results of surveys and investigations on the behavior of the Malta sea-breeze systems.en_GB
