Abstract: | The key objective of this study is to gather a better understanding of the current protection offered to youth teams mainly through the use of insurance within Malta focusing mainly on football. The literature focuses mainly on the main benefits youth clubs offer and hazards that and must manage. A SWOT analysis evaluating the main advantages and disadvantages is conducted from the interviews and responses collected. Furthermore, other measures other than insurance are identified. In order to obtain results, the major participants were consulted. This included the Maltese Youth F.A, Melita Unipol Brokers, clubs registered with the Youth F.A and coaches. Their opinions and ideas were evaluated in order to investigate the current situation in Malta and to form conclusions and recommendations. The study disclosed that insurance is considered as one of the main methods of risk transfer, however other methods such as first aid and education are also important. Moreover, the research demonstrated that only the Youth football association offers an insurance policy to its members compared with other sports. It was concluded that the insurance policy offered is an important step in enhancing and adding protection to youth clubs, however more work must be done in order to improve the protection offered to youth teams. |
