Abstract: This study involves an action research intended to try out and evaluate the use of discussion and collaborative work during five Algebra lessons with a Form II girls' secondary classroom. The lessons dealt with Equations and included equations in one unknown and up to two operations. Though this topic is usually found challenging and difficult for many students, actually the students engaged very well and enjoyed the lessons. In this study it was found that the teacher needs to prepare for discussion & collaboration and students also need time and support to get used to working collaboratively in class.
