Abstract: The aim of this study was to develop, implement and evaluate a Resource Pack of six English Comprehension Lessons for Year 5 classes. Prior to its development, a questionnaire was completed both by the teacher and pupils. From the questionnaire analysis, it was evident that the teacher used different genres of text and the resources that she preferred to use were Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and handouts. The pupils' questionnaire revealed that many children enjoyed comprehension lessons and 'Narrative' was their most preferred genre. In their opinion, an ideal comprehension lesson included group work and various activities. The development of the Resource Pack included lesson plans with corresponding resources to meet the needs of the participants. The six lessons were implemented in two Year 5 classes. An evaluation of the Pack was based upon the feedback collected through an interview and questionnaires completed by the participants. The feedback received was positive and highlighted the fact that the genre of text was more important than the resources for the children. It was a crucial determinant of the pupils' levels of comprehension. The pupils enjoyed all the resources employed because they created an entertaining atmosphere.
