Abstract: During the nineteenth century odd pairs of Short-eared owls Asio flammeus use to breed in the Maltese islands. In the present century only two nests were found - one with 5 young in the vicinity of Siggiewi on 4th May 1906 and another with a clutch of 3 eggs at Wied Znuber on 18th May 1909.
