What is the best gamble to retain your employees? : employee retention in the i-gaming industry in Malta

Abstract

In a fast-paced environment and increasing job opportunities, companies in the iGaming industry in Malta are finding it harder to retain their employees. This study investigates what gaming companies are doing to manage employee retention and the effectiveness of their strategies. The approach taken to explore this concept was through in-depth interviews with officials from different HR departments of iGaming companies. Ten themes have emerged from these interviews, the most prominent ones being: Development, Employer Branding, Extrinsic Rewards, and Intrinsic Rewards. This study can aid HR practitioners to increase in the lifespan of employees at an organisation and decrease employees’ turnover. Finally, it is recommended that the themes that improve employee retention within an organisation are not implemented individually, but holistically.
