dc.description.abstract | The main aim of this study is to analyze the type, level, and efficiency of records management in the public service. It particularly investigates the Electoral Office, and whether the management and the employees under their remit are aware of the rapid changes this sector is encountering every day. It analyzes both past practices and future plans in respect of records management. This investigation not only highlights the principles of good recordkeeping, but also sheds light on the risks that an organization can face if there isn’t a proper records management system in place. It also suggests ideas on how an organization can deal with everyday problems with regards to records. The literature review consulted covers both local and international standards and acts and highlight the importance of good recordkeeping practices in all organizations. Despite the public service is still lacking knowledge regarding records management, the Electoral Office shows that the mentality is slowly changing, especially considering what is at stake in case important documents are lost. It shows that investing in a good records management system, together with training, are key to successful records management and promotes this idea throughout the public service. | en_GB |
