To the prevailing Maltese mindset, so easily impressed by largesse (‘The whole place is a town in itself, with numerous restaurants, museums and whatnot – Alla jbierek’), Montekristo represents the life-long feat of a successful entrepreneur who, despite an occasional spanner in the wheels (e.g. MEPA, those nagging NGO’s), has managed to succeed, even collecting money for charity and making provisions for amenities which are in short supply on the island, namely animal zoos and antiquity and vintage car museums. Many will refer to the prodigious numbers of employees such an entrepreneur has and to the magnaminous and financial way he routinely assists all those in dire straits who seek his help. All well and good, but this does, and should, not atone for the illegal development at Montekristo.en_GB
