To supply a want that has for a long time been felt in Malta, where the number of medical men is daily increasing, this periodical is published. It consists of original articles in Italian on medical and natural history subjects, as well as synopsis of the latest most important discoveries in Medicine and Surgery; and, as it would not be expedient in this Island to issue more than one paper of such a character, we deemed it advisable to open its columns to English physicians and surgeons, who in good number, are stationed here from time to time and have the extensive experience of five hospitals - Military and Naval - to contribute articles in their own language ; and, with the view of rendering the paper more acceptable to the profession at large, not only correspondence on the aforesaid subjects will be received and published either in Italian or in English, but we will also give now and then one or more paragraphs on the fauna and flora of these Islands, written in English with some information as to domestic and economic uses of species, their local habitats, popular nomenclatures, etc.
