In this long essay, an analysis is undertaken of the relevance of quality tourist guides – that is, guides who are dedicated to the job they are undertaking whilst continuously adapting to the constantly changing trends and needs of the tourists. From the research undertaken, it is concluded that quality tourist guides will not be easily replaced by presently existing technologies. This is the case even though the presently existing technology can be used in conjunction with the services provided by a quality tourist guide, with the anticipation that this may increase the overall experience of the tourist. It is not excluded that there may come a time when the so-called scripted tourist guides may be replaced with technology unless they realign the service provided to address a more enriched, better equipped, guided tour experience.en_GB
