dc.description.abstractThe money supply process is of considerable importance in the economy because of the close relationship between changes in the money supply and changes in real output. Friedman and Schwartz (1963), in their celebrated study of the monetary history of the United States, showed that there exists a positive correlation between the money supply and real output: increases in the total stock of money occurred during expansions, while decreases were witnessed during recessions.en_GB
