Abstract: | Up to a few years ago, trade unions in Malta appeared to be immune to the crises which were afflicting many of their colleagues in other countries. Their influence and social standing remained strong and their actions effective whereas other unions were constantly losing ground. Union membership levels in Malta continued to increase whereas elsewhere they underwent a dramatic decrease. |
