Abstract: | Band clubs in Malta, though essentially connected with music, include a multitude of activities foreign to this art. There is at least one Club in each small village and possibly two in each town or large city. The two Valletta Band Clubs - La Valette and the King's Own, are the most important and practically all others owe them allegiance. The two Valletta Band Clubs were established over 75 years ago and have developed into musical organisations capable of rendering first class programmes. Band Clubs in Malta, must, however, have existed more than a hundred years ago for an old etching shows a band performing in Queen's Square in 1844. |
