Demographic review of the Maltese Islands for the year 1980

Abstract

The present issue of the Demographic Review presents data on Population and Vital events in 1980. Apart from providing detailed statistical tables on vital events which occurred during the year, it also gives comparative data for previous years. The Tables are as usual preceded by a brief Commentary reviewing the main demographic features for 1980. During the year under review the Maltese population continued to grow at an acceptable rate, health standards were maintained at a high level resulting in a low infant mortality rate and a high expectation of life in respect of both sexes while the predominant diseases causing death remained those associated with countries characterised by advanced social and economic conditions.
