| Abstract: | Among the most notable works of art ,in the Maltese Islands, the artistic collection which adorns the Co-Cathedral of St. John at Valletta, is perhaps the most important treasure house, both for :the great appeal of the works of art, as such, and also for the associations of some of the masters in the history of European art. Among these important works I am sure that the decoration of the vault, representing episodes from the life of the Baptist, by Mattia Preti deserves a special mention. It is a real pity that this masterpiece has often been neglected, and I am sure that this is one of the finest exploits of baroque painting. |
