Abstract: The absence of natural resources in Malta is a fact with which we are constantly being familiarized. We do however possess one valuable raw material: the rock we stand' on. All, the rocks of Malta are of the tertiary and quaternary periods and are sedimentary in origin. The complete rock sequence which can be seen from Kullana point near Boschetto, consists of five layers or strata. Beginning from the top we find the Upper Coralline Limestone, followed by two layers of Greensand and the Lower Coralline, beneath which we do, not yet know what exists. With the exception of the greensand, every stratum has some practicable industrial use and these should be actively developed.
