Abstract: This dissertation focuses on the application of Stanislavski’s methodologies, namely the Magic ‘if’ and Imagination, to the secondary school drama classroom. This application is seen both as an end in itself, i.e. as a means for the students to work on their theatre and performance techniques, but also as a way of strengthening their knowledge in another school subject. Following contextual chapters that tackle the aforementioned Stanislavskian methodologies and definitions of Applied Theatre and Theatre in Education, the dissertation culminates with a series of lesson plans aimed at the application of Stanislavski to the teaching of English Literature. An overview of how Stanislavski has been previously applied to contexts beyond theatre practice is also given.
