Abstract: It was only to be expected that the first edition should create a lot of interest, even though it was totally dominated by the relatively new horse Urus du Padoueng, who by the time the competition ended, had raced three times in Malta and won each time. Urus, owned by the Aquilina family, well-known as the owners of the Golden Harvest bakery chain, was thus unbeaten in Malta even after the final was run.
