Abstract: | The European Community is well known for various progressive economic, social and cultural initiatives, with more and more countries, including Malta, wanting to join this block of nations. The EC is also intensely involved in the advancement of medicine, with programmes of academic education and practical experience. In psychiatry the EC has set up HELlOS, which stands for Handicapped Persons Living Independently in a Normal Society. During the last week of November 1994, the HELlOS II conference was held in the town of Ghent, in Belgium, which is the seat of the EC The author of this article, together 'with two senior nursing officials, were invited to participate in the proceedings. |
