Abstract: In his inaugural address, Dr. Louis Galea said that focusing attention on the areas where there was a misfit between social subsystems, conflict between the goals they pursued was necessary if the appropriate welfare responses to the dynamics of social change were to be properly identified. He also told us that the topics of the workshops were chosen by the preparatory committee in an attempt to see if adopting a family focus could help secure an integrated response in terms of social policy. It is from that point of view that I am presenting this report. It is, consequently, very selective and neglects much of great intrinsic interest that was said - a selectivity made even more stringent by the constraints of time and the need of extreme brevity.
