Abstract: | With the rapid construction of the City of Valletta, which was commenced by the provencal Grand Master Jean Parisot de Ia Valette in 1566, the number of its inhabitants increased progressively. The more so since the Order of the Knights Hospitaller had transferred its headquarters from Vittoriosa to the new city in 1571. |
