Abstract: The family finds itself directly and indirectly concerned with the multiple interventions of the states of all European countries, whether these declare openly or not their specific policies in this sphere. However, again in all European countries, the diversity of such interventions and the evolution of requirements call for coherence, not only between family and social policies, but, more so, between the different interventions which touch the family. Without such coherence, real family policy is not possible. This is the fundamental justification for the present conference on the integration of family and social policies in the 1990's.
