Abstract: | Rinella Point is the narrow promontory at the entrance to the Grand Harbour opposite St. Elmo point. Before 1670, when Fort Ricasoli was not yet built and the site was still undeveloped, it was called "Gallows' Point". It took this name from the gallows that were usually erected in the area. On these gallows convicted rebels or evil doers were hung in order to warn newly arriving visitors that crime does not pay. |
