Abstract: | In the immediate five years following cessation of hostilities, rather surprisingly, there was a blank period on the development of water polo which was in direct contrast to the historic 1925 and 1928 years of Maltese water polo. Valletta and Sliema remained the chief protagonists throughout these years, 1920- 21 and the only interesting feature of some importance was, once more, the inevitable "challenge" between these clubs. It has to be recorded that whilst Sliema styled themselves as the Malta Water polo Champions, not to be outbidden, Valletta called themselves the "Unconquered" W.P. Team. This challenge match took place at Msida - in a neutral area, because Valletta objected to playing elsewhere on September 20th, 1921 and this time Valletta beat Sliema 1-0. |
