Abstract: | Grand Master Perellos was succeeded by the Italian Marc Antonio Zondadari, who ruled from 1710 to 1722. Zondadari accepted the new Austrian viceroy in Sicily though he made it a point to maintain friendly relations with Spain. The Order's conduct in the recent war and its neutral status were among the items discussed in a congress that was held in Chambrai in France. One aim of this congress was to put a stop to wars, even to those against the Infidel Turks, but it only succeeded in limiting somewhat the worrying spread of privateering. |
