Abstract: | Villa Portelli, facing the then Bruno Stores and Kalkara, was for so many years the official residence of British Admirals, Flag Officers etc. who came to Malta from time to time. It saw many a distinguished person until it was vacated. Perhaps, amongst the many who occupied this important building and who earned the respect of many Maltese were Rear Admiral J .A. Templeton-Cotill and Rear Admiral O.N.A. Cecil, who was the last British Commander in Malta. The former played a leading role in the events prior to the withdrawal of the British Forces from Malta in 1979 while the latter actually supervised the historic departure on April 1st, 1979. |
