Abstract: Skin cancer is a malignant tumour of the skin and known to be one of the most common forms of cancer. In 1995, 26% of the deaths in Malta were caused by cancer, of which approximately 33% died from skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma are the most common forms of skin cancer in Malta and in many other parts of the World, of which, mainly, are related to long-term exposure to sunlight. Rare skin disorders, such as Bowen 's disease, can be cancerous and may also lead to skin cancer as they may be related to sun exposure or any other risk factor. Even though, most skin cancers can be easily cured if treated early, many people die because they delay seeking treatment, especially from squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma.
