Abstract: The building of the new capital city, Valletta, epitomized what the Maltese Islands were to undergo as a whole, as a result of the Order's rule. The Knights has been accustomed to a high standard of living which they certainly were not going to give up easily. On the contrary, they sought to maintain their way of life as much as possible, and the Maltese Islands prospered in the process as a result of the Knights' lavish spending and development of new ways of life.
