| Abstract: | "His composition is quite traditional and unpretentious but beneath his superficial simplicity lies hard work, intense research and artistic feeling. In his photography one finds the thoughts of the author and the destinies of the people he so cleverly depicts." This quotation from the original by the Russian Victor Bred sums up Jos. A. Vella's artistic potential as a photographer. In May 1986, Vella exhibited 50 monochrome prints at the MUT Teachers' Institute in Valetta. Simultaneously another 50 works formed part of a one-man travelling exhibition in the Soviet Union organised by the Znanie Society of All Russia. The latter exhibition has gained for the artist a resounding success, recognition and praise. |
