Abstract: | Early in 1947 Lord Rowallan wrote to Captain Price to award him the Silver Wolf. Captain Price turned down the offer. As far back as June 1944 when the first meeting of the Association's executive committee was held at Villa Messina, the residence of Captain Price, the Island Commissioner had made known his views on awards. The matter had been raised by Mr Cutugno, one of the Commissioners. Captain Price remarked that awards had been introduced during his time but "he found from past experience that the system did not work out satisfactorily and in a place like Malta where everyone expected an award for services rendered, this tended to breed ill-feeling and jealousy rather than a spirit of emulation." |
