Abstract: Purpose: This study analysis the impact that Robotic Process Automation has had upon its implementation within business processes, mainly the benefits and challenges firms have enjoyed and/or faced. Above all, such study also assesses the reasons behind the non-implementation of RPA in certain instances. Design: The objectives set were achieved through the use of ten semi-structured oneto-one interviews with specialists, in their line of work, ranging from Accountants, Accounts Executives, CEOs, CFOs, Head of Commercial Banking, IT specialists, Senior Managers as well as Software Developers, representing entities listed on the Malta Stock Exchange. Findings: It has been identified that 80% of respondents do in fact possess a basic idea of what RPA is and what it offers to a business. Findings also indicate that 50% of the companies have implemented RPA within their business, with the majority of them having a positive experience, so much so that 80% of such companies plan on investing further resources into RPA. On the other hand, 50% of companies have not yet implemented RPA as of yet. However, 60% of such respondents discussed the possibility of RPA implementation, within the next few years. Conclusion: Many firms have had a positive experience with the implementation of RPA in their business processes, and many of the firms plan on upscaling RPA within their business. In cases of non-implementation, such firms have been stunned at the capabilities RPA offers within a business. Value: The findings of this study have provided an insight of the proportion of firms, listed on the MSE, that have implemented RPA, within their business processes. Such study provided an understanding of the benefits and challenges RPA offers, which could be of benefit to those firms that have not yet implemented RPA also. In fact, such respondents have provided proposals of ways to implement RPA within their business. Respondents identified opportunities within their firms where RPA could be of benefit to their firm.
