Abstract: Blockchain technology is taking the world by storm. It has brought forward new concepts and has proved itself applicable in several industries. In an age were technological competitiveness is essential for any nation to remain at the forefront of advancements, one must ask whether the Maltese environment is ready to take on such a technology. The Maltese market has proven itself successful year after year in other sectors such as IGaming. However, can the Maltese market prove itself successful once again when it comes to adopting blockchain and smart contracts within the public sector itself? To this end, a questionnaire was designed and key figures and people of influence were interviewed. Such interviews gave an invaluable insight as to what the current spectrum consists of, what needs to be tackled and what can be used as an advantage to speed up the process. Careful analysis of the gathered results has shown that the Maltese public sector is very eager to adopt blockchain and smart contract technologies, however a lot of work remains to be done in order the have the market ready and capable of adopting this technology fully.
