Abstract: | The Maltese Islands have been influenced by Sicilian and Italian cultural forces Sll1ce hundreds of years. Evidence of Sicilian contributions to the practice of medicine and surgery goes back to the Middle Ages when the excercise of the healing arts was in the hands of Sicilian Jews who received their medical training and the licence to practise in the Kingdom of Sicily. This lasted until the Jews were expelled from Sicily and Malta in 1492. |
