The tourism sector is an important part for the economy of many countries, as it is in the case of the small island of Gozo. Tourism is developing at a swift rate and constantly changing, therefore the tastes of the traveller alter and they are always on the search for something new and authentic. Destinations have to re-invent themselves and attract niche markets. Consequently new forms of alternative tourism arise, such as travelling for Health and Wellness purposes. Wellness tourism is one of the most ancient forms of tourism and it incorporates both physical and mental health. Health and Wellness tourism provides for the holistic healing, relaxation, meditation and improvement of one's well-being, as people pursue healthy lifestyle and to enhance their quality of life. This form of tourism can shift demand away from mass tourism and popular places, to smaller and undiscovered destinations. Gozo holds an opportunity for this type of tourism which yet has to be unravelled and developed further, which consequently would bring more quality tourists and will generate income for the island. With beautiful scenery, green hills, lack of heavy industry, tranquil and traditional lifestyle, it holds key components for making this island a great spot for the health seeker. The traveller can engage in various activities such as walking, rock-climbing, hiking, yoga and meditation, as well as the Indian 'Ayurveda' healing methods practiced and offered in Gozo.en_GB
