Abstract: | It took the Order of St John 246 years to build a proper customs house on partly reclaimed land which included Porto Pidocchio. The first block was laid in the sea in 1774. The architect was Giuseppe Bonnici, a pupil of Giovanni Barbara; both men had a vast portfolio of works. |
