Abstract: Diana Mackintosh, nee Tonna, is the mother of the theatrical producer Cameron McIntosh. She worked for the Times of Malta during the war. In this article, she shares her memories about the war. She speaks of the George Cross as an "extraordinary event" in the chapter 'Escape' of her biography Unsinkable. The chapter opens with Winston Churchill's famous quote: "Malta is the unsinkable aircraft carrier".
