Abstract: Through a closer look at Joseph Ratzinger’s extraordinary life and multifaceted works, this dissertation starts off by shedding light on the circumstances and factors that shaped Ratzinger’s frame of mind: what influenced him and what led him to see the priesthood the way he did. The second chapter offers a comprehensive analysis of the various themes pertaining to the priesthood that occur frequently in Pope Benedict’s Magisterial texts, namely in his homilies, addresses and meetings with priests in various fora. This dissertation offers a deep reflection on the priesthood, on its existential and ontological dimensions. However, the main aim of this work is to serve as a handbook or guide for priests, so that in reading these pages, the priest may find in Benedict’s words a source of inspiration that uplifts his mind and soul and motivates him in his service to God and His people.
