Abstract: Sports has existed since the very beginning that humanity started understanding the basics of society. This evolved from a simple past time to an advanced art that could lead an athlete to fame and fortune. In today`s world athletes are seen as role models that one can look up to. They are given opportunities, sponsorships and more wealth than they know what to do with. Every sport has its own grand merit; Football has the World Cup and Ballon D`OR ; Basketball has the Most Valuable Player award, and other awards in the different sports. When an athlete of any sport wins such an award, he can be sure that his name will be remembered and honoured for a long time. An athlete reaches the top level of his profession when he wins such awards that prove his accomplishment amongst his peers. This leads to many players dedicating themselves to becoming the best amongst their competition. Whilst dedication is key to this there are still some who fall short of their aspiration. This tempts them to find short cuts which would put them at an advantage over their competition. Examples of such short cuts are drugs Doping is an ongoing dispute within the public, legal and medical areas. This form of enhancement was found within most sports most notably as body building, football and cycling. This paper will exhibit different cases of both a national and international level, in which athletes have cheated with drugs. It will examine the case point by point starting from the events and finishing with the sentence. A main focus of this paper will also be the effects of Marijuana. Recent medical studies show that this type of drug could have a positive effect on the health of the athletes; whilst other reports indicate that this drug should still be considered on the same level as steroids. The outcome of this discussion is to see all the pros and cons of such a drug and to discuss whether there could be a change Fundamentally such meticulous analysis of the position of the athletes and the court highlights the fact that this notion is multi-layered as it embraces not only legal issues but also social, cultural, moral and psychological issues.
