Keywords: Business planning

Market segmentation
Issue Date: 2015
Abstract: Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyse and discuss how Pro Wrestling Malta can be prepared in their proposed entry in the events management industry by proposing an innovative business model. Methodology: Eight in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted, six with local event businesses, and two with Pro Wrestling Malta. The former were used to gain insights of how the business model components are applied in the events management industry. The latter were used to gather information on Pro Wrestling Malta’s current business model and learn more about foreign professional wrestling promotions. Research limitations: The insight was limited to presenting only Pro Wrestling Malta’s innovative business model on a business model canvas. Practical Implications: Firstly, an innovative business model was proposed to an organisation that is seeking to enter into a different industry. Secondly, the information collected from six event businesses may be of value to all industry incumbents since areas, such as business model components and key success factors may prompt event businesses to re-think their business models. Originality and value: This study proposes an innovative business model to the first Maltese business to be involved in teaching and promoting professional wrestling.
