Abstract: | "Optimal CBT treatment for child sexual abuse history: individual and group therapy." Purpose of Study: The aim of this literature review was to evaluate whether Group Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) would be better than Individual CBT in helping individuals recover from child sexual abuse. Research Question: The research question was formed using the PICO question format. The question formulated was: "Is group CBT better than individual CBT in helping children and adolescents recover from childhood sexual abuse?" Method: Data was collected through the use of online databases. In total, 14 articles were found that matched the PICO question. The sample included young victims who suffered sexual abuse. Results: Due to the limitations present in this literature review, no definitive conclusion could be drawn. However, both CBT formats were found to be effective with individuals who had suffered child sexual abuse and are superior to other therapies. As a result, one must ascertain the best format from which his patient may benefit most. Recommendations and implications for practice: It was suggested that more research in this area of study is required to further assess the local situation. This would help to provide a clear picture of whether the benefits obtained in the studies used in this literature review may be reproduced in the local setting. |
