According to the author Victor Mallia-Milanes, "A very profitable business for the Maltese was that of ship chandling. Certain families, like the Mizzis, the Tabonas, the Bordas and the Borg Costanzis, were well established in the supply of provisions to the British Forces by the end of the First World War". Spiro Mizzi is considered as the pioneer of modern industrialisation in Malta. He worked originally as a ship-chandler together with his father. He is the founder of the Mizzi Organisation and the father of Maurice Mizzi, who is now the head of the Mizzi organisation. Today the Mizzi Organisation, a family concern, is nearly 100 years old and employs over 900 people.en_GB
