Financial aspects in selected Maltese VOs : a critical appraisal

Abstract

The main aims of this dissertation were to understand and assess the use of Financial Management in Maltese Voluntary Organisations and whether this depends on the size of the Organisation. This dissertation will look at various elements of Financial Management and show which fundamentals are used to overcome the barriers that VOs face to be successful. This study starts by analysing the common factors relating to all VOs, and comparing them with the Maltese scenario; and identifying how good Financial Management affects and supports success or failure of the VOs. For the Literature Review, secondary data was mainly used. Reference was made to numerous books, online documents and local and international newspapers. On the other hand, the findings of this study were based on primary data, collected both from qualitative and quantitative surveys carried out with various Maltese VOs, as well as with experts in this field. This study concludes with a summary of various factors that impinge on the Financial Management of Maltese VOs and how problems identified can be overcome to enable VOs to be more successful in the future.
