Kburin, which translates to ‘proud’, is an 18 minute, vox-pop documentary project which seeks to visually document various aspects of Maltese culture in context of what defines the Maltese islands. It’s filmed in five locations, these being Valletta, Birkirkara, Tas-Sliema, Victoria (Gozo) and Żejtun. These five localities in Malta stereotypically are seen to have contrasting views about each other, creating a small pique, which results in different opinions about mainstream Maltese culture. People are asked five different questions about mainstream Maltese cultural aspects, such as what defines the Maltese people, their cultural practices, religion and politics. The report is segmented into four chapters, which are; introduction which introduces the main concepts and format of the documentary; literature review, which includes research done by others beforehand in order to construct this documentary; methodology which is segmented into three phases - pre-production, production and post-production; and the evaluation of the actual documentary project which gives an in-depth analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of this documentary, as well as different approaches that could have been taken. Finally, conclusions are presented to highlight the learnt values acquired from this project. The word “ħamallu” is a Maltese slang word describing one as being obnoxious. The word “pepe’” is a Maltese slang word describing one as someone who has a perceived sense of superiority, is an overachiever or educated. It also refers to a particular manner of speaking.en_GB
